It’s probably rarely known and not easily found on Google maps. It is very remote area and the temple is still under construction. What I understood while speaking with a local there is, it’s a Thai Temple. I was not too surprised with this fact as during our visits to Bangkok I have often seen Ganesha temple and people praying to Lord Ganesha. There is beautiful Bronze huge idol of Ganesha in Bangkok near very famous CentralWorld Mall. Thai call Ganesha as Phra Phikanet (พระพิฆเนศ) or Phra Phikanesuan (พระพิฆเนศวร) and is worshiped as the deity of fortune and success, and the remover of obstacles.
So, I kept wondering when I saw one of the friend’s post staying in Tung chung having picture with this Ganesha Idol and my travel bug which is anyway almost dead right now bit me. We tried visiting there 2 times and both times reached some other location. Just couldn’t locate this place. As I mentioned its near hustle bustle of HK yet bit remotely located. So finally when I saw one more fellow Indian visiting there I was determined that on this occasion I have to bow down to this Ganeshji Idol.
The path and directions that were suggested weren’t easy for us honestly since google maps didn’t support any suggestions. So we ensured we click pictures for others to follow and make a easiest guide to reach this place. Only after we reached there from Coastal skyline walking almost 4 kms (don’t worry in reality its not that far, we were lost!) we came to know that this is near Thai seafood restaurant and hence it made sense that this is Thai temple/ location :) But "Bhagwaan tho Ganeshji hi hai aur dil full too hindustani". So we were pleasantly staring and feeling grateful to Lord Ganesha for Darshan so nearby from home.
Without much a suspense…here is the easiest
route according to us: We have tried to check in there but google devta do not seem to follow easiest route. However one can keep a tab on location by following this link or at least know where exactly is this place.
Google location: 逸東海景燒烤場, Tung Chung (Search for this location – its called Barbecue)
Link for google maps is here.
There are two routes suggested by Google maps:
1) via Battery Trail, it’s a direction that includes small trek (Not too difficult, but yes involves some physical stress)
2) Normal walk from station till the destination
The route that i am showing below is the one that we walked from Coastal skyline in Tung Chung till the location.(The google maps is not showing this route but we found this to be very easy and straight forward)
Walked past the station, reached subway and crossed the subway to reach Yu Tung Road |
Alight on Yu Tung Road (from wherever you walk or come you will end up on this road) |
Yu Tung road looks like the one above! |
At the end of Yu Tung Road you will see two ways - Take the skybridge and walk on it (On your right you may see North Lantau Hospital) |
keep walking Skybridge and take second exit downwards |
Once you go down the stairs, keep walking straight and right in front you will see lot of banners nearby the door
the Entrance to the location or Temple! |
Lots of banners on the entrance (P.S. Incase you find that doors are locked - Please call the number on the banner - 31583833, its the restaurant contact. they will come and open the doors) |
The Ganeshji Idol is here! |
Mooshak! |
Blessed We :) |
Thai Description of this place but i couldn't decipher anything! If anyone can translate..please do! |
Waiting to visit again, when it might be fully constructed!
Another option by bus :
1. Take Bus No 37 or 37H and get off at Kui Yat House Bus Stop (one stop before the final bus stop of yat tung estate)
2. Rest follow the guidance as above picture from Kui Yat House bus stop.
While returning if its not too much ,then one can take battery trail back home or Tung chung station.
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi and hope you guys find this place easily and be blessed by Lord Ganesha!
Please do mention any changes needed or if anyone wants any more information.. Feel free to leave a comment.
