Must Visit Stunning Sunflower Field in Hong Kong! (3 Mins Read)

In total awe of this beautiful flowers since childhood and why not, they are beauty inside out. For die hard old Bollywood movie fans, Movie Roja was one time classic hit and that is where I had seen full bloom  sunflower fields. From then till now, its my first time visit to sunflower field. Love at first sight! In fact, they teach some of the most important lessons of life! Keep going soaked in the sun and follow the sun throughout the day while standing tall and beautiful rest of the times. They are literally pleasure to eyes.  

Many have seen it in Europe and USA, some must have gone to Canada and Japan, many must have been through those magnificent fields in Thailand and China and only who are deeply in love with this flowers would have found them in Tamil Nadu in India. But here is the surprise! Sunflower fields right here in Hong Kong. Yes, you heard that right, its whole big and beautiful sunflower park in Hong Kong. Not so well known, but definitely worth knowing and deserves one visit for sure. Such a galore of beauty is not only serene but meditative. I think nature has this power anyway!

Sunflower Park or Sunflower fields are  located in San Tin area in Yuen Long, which is northern part of Hong Kong tucked in little interior side, not so well established route but definitely reachable. 

With 80,000 sunflower blooming at a time when it is at its peak is a sight to behold your breath! This is considerably decent sized field. Its only in second year of its operation. The caretaker mentioned that last year they had many many visitors but not this year which makes it difficult for them to run the field. But with whatever capacity they have, they  made it a point that no one would leave the place disappointed. 

We visited this place on partially cloudy day in afternoon. There were many people but given the size of the fields everyone had their own space to click and get clicked without disturbance :) 

P.S. social distancing was pretty much maintained and masks were off only for photos. 

The obvious DDLJ pose which comes out after seeing these Yellow beautiful blooming sunflowers. there were Yellow, Golden, and Dark browned sunflowers standing tall and vibrant beneath the perfect blue skies and sharing the far views of Green lush mountains!

More poses with sunflowers. The approx 7000 square feet farm has been divided into 4 parts. Where one part belongs to sunflower blooms, 2nd one was where there were lush green grasses with some nice photo props, the another one was for water lilies and one more part had Thai lotus grown there.

 

Location:

Option 1: Take a cab to San tin Farm and show the driver above Chinese address to reach exact location. Our driver had little trouble finding exact place but be careful and you will find little A4 size printouts hanging across the road for last 1 km stretch with sunflower pictures. Or one can always call the care taker there and connect your driver so she will guide in best way. 

One can take Cab from Yuen long or Shueng Mui MTR (It will cost approx HKD 80 for 10 kms ride). We took cab directly from Tung Chung and it costed us around 240 HKD including all tolls

Option 2:  From either Yuen Long (Yoho bus station) or Shueng shui MTR, catch 76K Bus or 17 No Red Bus and get off at Shek Wu Wai bus stop. From here, the farm is approx 10-15 mins walk. the road is little tricky.

PRO TIP: After getting down at Shek wu wai bus stop, go across the street if you are coming from yuen long side. Go underneath the tunnel in left side with a water stream, follow the water stream and the signs along the route and you will reach the destination! (there is lot of construction going on and may not be ideal to walk with pram,etc if you plan to travel with baby)  (Here is the Google Map Link for walk)

 

Entrance Fees:  

Per person 10 HKD is the entrance fees and if one wishes to be clicked with the sunflowers inside the farm then have to pay 50HKD per person 

So in reality its 60 HKD per person cost. 

If one wishes to buy sunflower, it costs 20 HKD per flower. 

One should diligently pay the entrance and buy some flower to support the local farms! They can use this money for restoration of farm so we can go back next year with more flowers in site :)

Opening Time:

In June - July - August  - It is open from 9AM to 5 PM all days 

In September - October - It is open from 9AM to 5 PM only on Saturday and Sunday 

The exact month of start and end of this sunflower season may change so its best to call and confirm

Its a remote farm place so one should not expect too many options. You can only get few cold beverages for HKD 10.

Quick tips and notes:

1. As mentioned earlier, this is a remote location and if you plan to travel by public transport and decide to walk for last 1 km then its not wheel chair / stroller friendly. 
2. If you plan to go by cab / car you can off course take strollers. But once, inside the field you will have keep stroller just outside. 
3. Its a PET friendly location and we found many people clicking beautiful pictures with their Pets.
4. Since its a open farm and operational only on summers, Sun can be really too overwhelming so better carry little food and water and keep yourselves enough hydrated so that you can have real fun of clicking pictures without getting tired.UV protected Sun screen, glares and some nice hats are must carry for both protection and some wonderful clicks!
   
5. Do carry your own small fan, that would be big savior! 
   
6. Needless to mention its flower field with lot of construction and river stream nearby, and there are endless small insects and mosquitoes so please do apply mosquito repellents (which we forgot and regretted))  
7. And most important thing to note, though its undoubtedly beautiful place, but if you are InstaLover and want some extraordinary pictures plan to visit in month of June July when its fresh and glowing and sun is shining and day is clear and do not forget to carry your DSLR!
   

   WAIT, WAIT, WAIT

The surprise is not over yet. 

If you miss the Sunflower bloom, do not regret! Same place, same location, they grow different color lilies from month of December its open for public to view!
